I’ve been researching health supplements for a while now, to the point where I know which supplement is good and “bad” per se. As I was explaining in my last post about food labeling, the supplement companies like to label their products as well for the consumer to buy their product. I could talk all day about the different type of supplements but in this post, I want to focus on protein itself.
Why protein? Because I believe that’s the number one thing consumers buy when they want to start eating healthy and start exercising. Now, the question is not which protein is the best? But instead which protein is right for me.
The thing most peope look for when buying protein is how many grams of protein do i get per serving. Which to me that is the last thing I will look for when buying a protein. On average, “the DRI (Dietary Reference Intake) is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, or 0.36 grams per pound”. If I weight 150lbs then I should be taking 54 grams of protein per day, which are very easy to get if you have a healthy normal diet. The firts thing I look for in a protein mix is the quality of the protein itself which is how well it dissolves in liquid (water/milk). The second thing is how many vitamins and amino acids am I getting per serving, and the third would be the price of the product. Now there is different types of protein such as plant based protein for those who don’t want any animal products on it. Then there’s people who just focus on the flavor of the protein and there’s also Isolate protein which in my opinion are the best because they taste great, absorb faster, are usually lactose free and provide the right amount of amino acids and vitamins.
Do not let the protein companies distract you from what you really need. Sometimes the generic protein would be sufficient for someone who just wants an extra amount of protein for a low price.
